10 year old cat question

My 10 year old cat was never very "clingy" and for the past few months he seems to be laying around and will come up and lay by me, near my laptop, and not squirm when I hold him. He still purrs (maybe more now than he ever did (at least he is close enough to notice). He has remained the same weight during this (he is about 12 lbs). He has a good appetite. I'm just nervous and don't know how older cats should act. I took him to the vet and of course he said I should get a blood workup done (at $160) because of his age to be sure. Any advise?

Hi
Well I can understand why your vet would recommend this blood work as this is the only wy to tell for problems such as thyroid problems, cancers, diabetes etc. I had to have this done for my old cat.

Unfortunately as cats get older they can start to suffer from age related illness also such as failing eyesight, hearing problems etc and this in turn can affect their behavior.

I have web page about Senior cats and what can happen, it may give you an idea of some of the things which you could look out for here is the page

Perhaps if you take a look through some of my cat health pages and at some of the symptoms etc, it will give you some more information as to what sort of things to look out for. Sometimes our cats are very good at hiding their problems from us.

Hope your cat is fine

Kate
