2 year old cats acting different

My 2 2 year old cats, who love each other and used to get along beautifully, suddenly started fighting yesterday morning. They have not stopped. The are still hissing at each other and fighting and I've separated them a few time to see if it calmed them down, but they are still acting crazy. Every time one sees the other they hiss at each other. This behavior is just all of a sudden and it has me worried.

sounds like this could be a case of what is known as trauma aggression. It is caused when something frightens one of the cats and they blame their fear on the other cat even if they had nothing to do with it.

They need to regain trust in each other again in a non confrontational situation. I always recommend a period of re introduction for this. I have a web page about this process here.

don't worry with a little time and effort the peace can be restored.

best wishes kate
