M&M Mahler Mingus Kitten Fight!

I've only had these boys for about two months but I'm already in love with them. I adopted them from the shelter I volunteer at and it was more them choosing me than the other way around. I had seen a picture on our website the night before but when I got there that kitten was already adopted. I figured I'd look around anyways because the personality always mattered more to me than what they looked like and I found M&M.

They were part of a littler of five and the only two boys. When I opened their cage Mingus flopped right onto his back and demanded a belly rub. Mahler was a little shyer at first but he let me pick him up and started purring. When I picked them both up they immediately fell asleep in my arms and that was that.

The shelter didn't have any information on them but they were both so thin I was a little worried. However, it didn't take long for them to fix that and at this point Mahler (who started out the smaller one) is four pounds heavier and almost bigger than his brother.

Since then they have developed two very different personalities. Mahler has grown brave. He loves climbing just about everything (including me!) and knows he's the one who's really in charge. Mingus acts more like a puppy than any cat I've ever known. He follows me around and cries when I'm behind a closed door. When I come home (or out from behind the closed door) he cuddles up to my leg until I pick him up. He'll touch his nose to mine and then give it a little lick before settling down. When I pick up his brother next, Mahler will try to out-do him and give my nose a whole bath.

Both of these boys are impressive acrobats. When I get on of their teaser's out they go wild, but politely take turns jumping for it, managing backflips and twisting around in mid-air. I'm going to have to buy them one of those 6' cat trees pretty soon. Although they don't seem to feel the need yet to climb higher than my counters just yet even though I know they can get all the way on top of my cabinets already!

They both still love falling asleep in my arms, preferably on their backs. I actually had to wait to type this because Mahler was asleep on me and then Mingus jumped up and fell asleep on top of him. ;) I bought them a lovely cat bed which they ignore. They do love to sleep either on my computer chair, my spot on the couch, my bed or an old fleece of mine I put out for them. Do you see a pattern there?

Hello, your cats sound like lovely boys and it seems you are as in love with them as I am mine! I have four, ranging from 10 years old to 7 months! They are all adorable and so affectionate. Jack and Martha - two 3 year old siblings have been like puppies since day one with us! Martha is a total daddy's-girl and she will wait on the staircase come 5pm - every night - as she knows it is nearing the time daddy walks in from work. She'll cry at him, roll on to her back, make little chirping noises and curl up on his lap, wherever he may be sat, or layed. Jack is the same, yet far more vocal, having a lot of Maine Coon in him. Jack really is like a dog and even lays like one and has a doggy nature! I wonder if it is due to him being raised with a dog - as when I went to view the kittens, he and Martha were both asleep cuddled up to this huge dog :) Eva - the youngest, at 7 months, is also so, so affectionate, she also was raised with a dog and is the same in nature as Jack and Martha. Like your cats, Eva will fall asleep on my computer chair, or wherever I usually sit. This is because it is covered with our scent and they feel secure and close to us when we aren't there. Scampy, my 10 year old ginger male - who was raised an orphan and didn't have a good start in life; not being handled like the others were, is not puppy-like as the others, and doesn't like a lot of fuss, he does however love cuddles and is very affectionate, but strictly on his terms. Whereas the others - you can pick them up and rub their tums and cradle them at any time of day or night, and they love it! Eva will fall asleep in my arms when I cradle her and rock her! Cats know who they love and Martha is my partners cat (well she is all of ours of course) but has a special bond with him. Jack is my sons cat, Scampy is my daughters and Eva is mine :) Yet saying that, they love us all and we love them all! A house is NOT a home without a cat, or 4! :)Enjoy your lovely boys, they sound very special and are very beautiful. And good for you for rescuing them and giving them such a loving home :)

Your kitties are beautiful!!! They are lucky to have you! I have 2 cats. Both my husband rescued from outside. Both are tiger tabby cats.Bootsie is 4 and Bonnie is 2. I love them dearly!! There are so many strays in my neighborhood and I have been feeding them for about 3 years now. It is such a problem..they keep multiplying. I do what I can, and it costs me a small fortune to feed them, but I will continue to do it as long as I can or until I move. Thank you for sharing your kitties!!!
