Adult Cat Biting

by Joel

What does it mean when my adult cat puts his teeth on me, without actually biting me? He does this especially when I am petting him. Is this his way of showing affection or dislike?

Thanks!

Hi
if he pretends to bite then he is just playing, he would do the same if he was playing with another cat, i.e pretend to bite.

You do have to be careful that he doesn't get over excited and actually bite you by accident. It is often best not to allow them to get used to biting hands etc as there could be an accident involving a stranger or child.

i have a page about cat discipline which shows you how you can train your cat to learn that biting hands is not good, I also have a page about playing with your cat so that they get the most enjoyment out of games etc. you may find them of further interest, here are the pages.
