Angels new neighbor
Mama started feeding the birds again. She put the seed out early this morning. It's fun to watch all those feathery ones fly in for breakfast. I speak in my best chattering voice to them.
Only not many came. Just one black bird. Word hasn't gone out that buffet is open.
Still we watched and waited.
Then the wildest thing happened.
New neighbors of the strangest kind came down the apple tree, head first. There were two of them in tandem. I tried to figure out what the heck they were?? I never saw cats like this before! They were my size, only with rounded backs and long striped tails. I wondered if it was a stick-up because they wore black masks.
I was in alert mode. Ready to charge the glass slider if need be.
"They're baby raccoons looking to eat." Mama was very patient as they rooted in her pink impatiens looking for fallen apples. The biggest green apple lay on the ground. One little critter somehow got that whole thing in his mouth and ran up the tree to eat it. The second critter couldn't find any apples. The deer have eaten most of them. So he ran up the tree, hoping for a bite or two of his sister's.
Mama didn't want to scare them with the flash. But this afternoon she had a second chance. One came down the tree for a second look, still wearing that black mask.
