Can you cut cats fur in the summer?

My cat suddenly has his fur ratted up can i cut it down and will he will be ok in the summer?

yes it sounds like he had some matted fur and you have trimmed it for him which will stop any discomfort for him.

Some people do have their long haired cats fur trimmed in the summer and it does the cat no harm at all. Personally I believe they don't need it done at all, the only time this may be necessary is in your case when the fur becomes matted.
