cat and her kittens

My cat just gave birth a week ago to 5 kittens. I noticed she wants to hide her kittens under my bed. Eventually the 1 kitten was pinned down and died. I keep her kittens in the box. Is there reason why she is doing these? I there any reason or simply she don't want that particular kitten.

Hi
it is not unusual for a mkother cat to move her kittens to somewhere else. usually she does this because she does not feel safe where she is and is trying to move her kittens to somewhere safer.

Where a mother cat neglects one kitten it is usually because it is the runt of the litter. there may be something wrong with it, or it may just be weaker. in nature a cat will only want to nurture healthy kittens.

In some cases where there is a runt and the mother cat does not want it you can sometimes take it away from the litter and nurse it yourself. this is very time consuming and may not be successful.
i have some information about this here
