Cat Attacked for no reason

by Dave

We adopted a four year old Himilayan, that had been mis-treated by her former owner. Everything was fine for about a month. when it was just my wife and me in the house. We recently had house guests and the house was much busier than usual. Yesterday, my wife walked by the cat and she actually attacked my wife. Fortunatly. the cat had been de-clawed on the front paws. She jumped on my wifes' back and she was able to knock the cat off. The cat continued to hiss and growel for about an hour. Everything is fine now and the cat is back to normal. My wife is now scared of the cat and fearful she may turn on her again some time. We wonder if the cat was upset because of the turmoil in the house. What should we do??

Hi
well yes it may have been triggered by the cat feeling a little fearful due to all the changes recently. However it may also be that your wife either surprised the cat or if she was wearing strong perfume or had recently used some other strongly scented product. This can often make a cat fearful.

the one time in my old cats life that she attacked me was when i was getting ready to go for the evening and put on some new perfume. She really did react so out of character but was fine afterwards.

Your wife needs to try and do some bonding with the cat to build both of their confidences again in each other.

please see my page about how best to bond with a cat. here
