Hi some cats are not natural mother s and can take a few days to get used to their kittens but usually they do. The fact that she ate the dead kitten is natural cat behavior. In the wild you waste nothing especially when you have a family to bring up.

Are you sure she was biting the kittens and not trying to pick them up in her mouth or clean them. Sometimes it can look confusing.

All you can do is to keep an eye on them all and make sure that the kittens are feeding from the mother cat and that she is cleaning them etc.

if you suspect that the kittens are not getting any food then you will have to take over and quickly. Please see this page for more information on how to bring up kittens.
