Cat Cleaning Too Much

by Audrey Brooks
(Lebanon, Illinois, United States)

My Cat constantly licks himself for long periods of time and he pulls out his fur. He's losing his fur on his belly and the inside of his back legs. Why?

Answer by Kate

Hi
Cats will do this for one of two reasons. either they have an irritation which is caused by parasites or a skin allergy

The other reason is caused by anxiety. Over grooming is a way a cat will use to try and calm themselves down.

You need to make sure that the area is not infected by parasites or if the skin is looking dry or flaky. A trip to the vets might be a good idea to have the area checked out.
