Cat Constantly Biting

by Amber C.

I have a 6 month old cat. She may have been taken to early from her mother. Anytime we try to pet or hold her she bites & scratches viciously. The only time she wants to be loved is bedtime. What can I do to stop it? We haven't taken her to the vet yet to get her shots or spayed. Will that calm her?

Answer from Kate
Hi yes having her spayed will help to calm her down.

Also this behavior is a learned behavior which needs to be un-learned as it were. It is likely that she is playing with you but has not learned that biting and scratching is not on.

The best thing you can do is try the cat discipline method of negative and positive reactions. This process is described here, it does take a little time and patience but in the long run should put pay to this behavior.
