Cat Houses, or at least somewhere your cat can rest in when outside, is an essential item for every kitty. Look at it from a cat’s point of view. While your humans are out earning enough to buy you your food, you’re out all day hunting, marking your territory and generally patrolling your area. Where do you go for a quick catnap to recharge those batteries, that’s safe and cosy? Your very own kitty house of course!

Joking aside, cat houses do provide a safe, clean and comfortable retreat for your cat whilst you are out every day. A pet house also provides shade in the summer and somewhere warm and dry in the winter. It will also give you peace of mind to know that your cat has somewhere to go if they want to feel safe while you are away.

Points to remember when buying a pet house:

Make sure that it’s water tight

Access to the house is easy for your cat

Is the pet house easy to clean?

Will it be warm in the winter and cool in the summer?

Will your cat like it?

Will your cat feel safe inside?

A lot of course will depend on where in your garden you place the cat house. It is best to try and put it in the shade and where the cat can still see out. This second point is very important for your cat, as they will feel much safer if they feel that they cannot be ambushed. Most cats like to be up high, as it gives them the advantage over other animals coming into the garden, then they can do the ambushing!

Types of cat houses available.

Cat houses come in all sorts of sizes, shapes and design. From the most basic house style to the most lavish, every taste is catered for. So even if you can’t afford to live in the grandest of houses at least your kitty can. You know your cat better than anyone else, so you will know just what sort of cat house will be best for your pet. Do they like to be up high? Do they like to squeeze into small spaces? Etc.

Here are just a few designs to get you thinking about just what your cat might like.

Cedar Cat House with Porch – this house is based on the traditional style but comes with a built on porch, which is great for those hot sunny days when your cat can lounge in the shade.

The Multiple Townhouse – great if you have more than one cat. It not only saves space but it’s also a great lookout for your cats.

Kat Kabins – A very modern and light weight option for those who want to be able to move the cat house around. They are very snug and secure and come in very fashionable colours to suit any environment, but best of all they are easy to clean.

Cat Veranda house – this is a good option for those of you who do not want to let your cat outside on their own but who also want their cat to be able to experience the outside world. These cat houses can be attached to an open window and are accessed from the inside only via a cat flap door. Your cat will be able to sit outside when they want to and you will not have to worry about their safety.

Hey what about those cats that don’t go outside, don’t they deserve to have their own pet house as well? Of course they do. They are known as kitty condos (it really makes me quite jealous, why can’t I have a condo?) Just as there are many different types of pet houses, there are so many designs of kitty condos. Some are grand, some are fun, but all are very very comfy.

Cats love to play and hide and generally spend their life having lots of fun. And why not, I wish we all could, don’t you?
