CAT "HUGS???"

My nine month old neutered orange american shorthair sometimes gets into my lap, faces me, rears up on his hind legs, drapes both forepaws over one of my shoulders, lowering his head onto his front paws, while he presses the entire length of his belly against my torso. He stays in that position for from five to ten seconds, and then returns to normal "pet me" lap-sitting position.

When he's done this, he is NOT hungry, or in need of any kind or routine care. I have NOT had other cat's scent on me. WHAT IS MY CAT DOING, OR TRYING TO "TELL ME?"

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE MEANING OF THAT BEHAVIOR????

He's done that about six times in the last three weeks.

IF YOU CAN HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS, I'D BE MOST GRATEFUL!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Hi
One of my own cats does this too. I don't think it has any particular meaning other than he wants to look into your face. My sisters cat does this too.

It may be part of a stretch also, plus he is feeling the warmth of your body against his own.

I really wouldn't put any meaning into it at all, apart from the fact that it is lovely that he feels that secure with you that he wants to be so close.

best wishes kate

Hi there
my cat does something similar.
usually when im lying down on my back or on my laptop in bed he crawls up ontop of my chest puts his paws on each shoulder & pushes his wet nose into my face while purring loudly.
I take it as cuddles, hes a very loving cat anyways.
Completely normal & cute as!
