Cat licking fur off

by Erik
(El Sobrante, USA)

We recently lost one of our cats and Sophie was very sad. After a few months we got a kitten, who is very sweet, and respectful towards her. However, Sophie is kind of hates new things. She is getting use to him, but she started licking so much that I am now seeing skin. The vet cannot find anything physcially wrong. She has the day and night to herself. Is there anything I can do to get her to stop licking? I don't want her to get "Raw". Thanks, Erik

yes it sounds like your cat is over grooming caused by stress and anxiety of the new kitten coming into the home. Cats are not natural pack animlas and so do not always get along with another cat even though they may have lived with another cat in the past.

i don't know how you introduced the two cats to each other. there is a process which is rather slow but is designed to help them get used to each other in safe environment. here is the process

I also have a web page about anxious cats which you may also find of help here

best wishes Kate
