I adopted Baby from a local pet store in 2005 at only 8 weeks old.
He was a spirited lil guy who was a joy to watch and a great companion to my adult cat "Smokey".
Baby grew into a beautiful Black and White Tuxedo Cat and very healthy.
In May 2007 at age 2 Baby started throwing up and would not eat.
A trip to the vet and I was told it was a virus. Antibiotics was given and I was told to watch him for 10 days.
In 10 days he was no better and obviously losing weight from not eating, only drinking water.
So more antibiotics was given for another 10 day period at which time he went down hill health wise rapidly.
I then demanded an x ray which revealed he had swallowed a penny. He had copper poisioning.
Emergency surgery was performed and a feeding tube put in so I could feed him a few days while recovering but he only got worse.
On June 7th the vet rechecked him and I was told that he was not going to recover and his condition was critical.
He had no quality of life. It was time to let go.
He laid quietly and had a glassy blank stare and tried to purr when I held him but was too weak. I begged him for days to "Come Back and not leave me" and bless his heart, he held on I know for my sake but on June 7th I was holding him in the middle of the night and I realized it was time to tell him he could go and that I would be ok.
He would try to lift his head to rub against me and couldnt.
He was more concerned with making me feel better than his own pain and suffering.
At 7 a.m on the 8th of June I decided I was going to have him euthanised that morning. I decided to hold him and tell him goodbye before leaving for the vet office.
As I held him and cuddled him one last time, I told him how much I have loved him and what he has ment to me. My other cat "Smokey " laid beside his dying friend as if to tell him we was all there with him to say good-bye.
I whispered in his ear"
Baby, We all love you and we know you are tired and must go to the Rainbow Bridge without us and we want you to know it is now ok to leave us and to where you will be free of your suffering.
We give you our heartfelt permission to go now and be well and happy and we will meet you again someday".
At that very moment, Baby took a deep breath, laid his head over in my arm and crossed the bridge.
He waited for us to tell him it was ok to leave us.
Rest In Peace my dear "Baby". You live in my heart endlessly.
His ashes are stored in an urn on my shelf and he is still with me.
