Cat mortified after a powerful thunderstorm

Two days ago we had a rather nasty thunderstorm that lasted for about 2 hours. It was a big one and the late afternoon sky began to look like night fall as this system rolled over us. Anyways our cat Farben freaked out and hid under the bed during all this. After it was over he came back out and now two days later still acts terrified. He stares out the window as if something is there and stands in a crouching position, clearly alert and ready to flee. Do cats go through such fearful phases after thunderstorms? Our other cat didn't even seem to care that there was a storm. Thanks!

Hi
yes some cats are generally more nervous than others and things like storms and loud noises can upset them.

Hopefully your cat will eventually calm down when he realizes that danger etc is passed.

however some cats do need a little extra help to help them relax. there are some medications you can buy or cat sprays for the house which are designed to help your cat relax again.

I have a page with some information about nervous cats which you may find of further help
