My Precious Lola & Billy
Special Note:
This is dedicated to Lola & Billy who came to me 2 years ago
only 3 weeks old and feral as little wild cats.
It took Billy almost a year to allow me to hold him and Lola just in the last 2 months has allowed to to hold her after 2 long years of dedication and determination to teach them trust and give them a loving home.
It has been well worth my efforts as they are wonderful additions to my feline family. They are living proof that some ferals CAN be socialized.
Lola & Billy
Her name is Little Lola
And feral, once was she
She hissed and spat and bit and scratched
She had no trust you see.
She was born outside with her brother
No human to stroke their head
Their mother tried to keep them warm
in a cold garage type shed.
It was winter time in Michigan
the temperature was very cold
Lola and her siblings struggled much
they was only a few weeks old.
A lady found them hidden there
among the heaps of clutter
To think how cold those babies were
just makes my heart to shutter.
She took them to the rescue
Please help them, the lady asked
But raising feral kittens
Is quite a difficult task.
The mama cat was social
a sweetheart from first sight
But Lola and Billy was very feral
Handling them was quite a frieght.
The mama cat was adopted
to a wonderful forever home.
But Lola and Billy trusted no one
So I decided to keep them for my own.
Billy adjusted slowly
and in time he learned to trust
but Lola trusted no one
I was determined to win her or bust.
My friends all said "your crazy"
Those cats will never be tame
I had promised them a good life
To give up on them would be a shame.
Two years have passed since that winter
Long months, and weeks and days
But Lola and Billy have socialized
they now love human praise.
The moral of this story
has nothing to do with rhyme
Its all about patience and dedication
and giving those babies much needed time.
Those kittys learned to love me
they live with me here today
It was worth the work and hardship
I love them more than I can say.
So if you find a feral
with kittens by her side
please try to save the mom and babes
Dont turn away and hide.
It takes alot of patience
Some people will say "Dont try"
But they are living little creatures
Without you they might all die.
Feral kittens are not hopeless
Most surely can be saved.
You must be dedicated
You also must be brave.
So here is to my Lola
and her handsome brother Bill
I am so glad I stood by them
and we are together still.
