Hello we have had our cat for 3 years now from the ver begining he pooped right next to the litter box I tried to show him to go in it but he never has I have cleaned this up for 3 years and I am now sick of it, I told my kids we are getting rid of it and they were so upset he is part of our family we got him on my sons 1st birthday so they have grown up together they are best friends, I recently moved the litter pan to see what he would do he goes pee in it but still poops right next to it.
This has been for three years I am sick of stinky smelly cat poo on my floor please help me.

when a cat poops on the floor like this it really means that they are trying to make themselves feel secure in their own home. the smell helps the cat make the home smell more like them.
It could be that where the litter tray is that the cat does not nfeel secure there to go poop. try moving it to a quiet area in a corner where they may feel more secure.
It may be worth doing some intensive litter training with him which would require him to be confined to a room on their own with the litter tray and their bed etc for a week or so to get them settled down and used to the litter tray. please see my page about litter training under the training pages.

I do hope that the problem can be sorted out as it would be a terrible shame if you had to rehome him

Best wishes kate
