cat problem

Max

Max

My cat, Max, and my sisters cat, Ranger, were sitting by the screen door when all of a sudden my cat started to hiss and growl at Ranger cat for no reason, and his tail went up and poofed out and hair up. we have had them since they were kittens and their brothers. And then Max raced down to the his room and my dad went to go see him and he growled, hiss, and also attacked him. then he burst out and left pee and poop all over the floor... when I came in he let me come to him and comfort him. So we decided to keep the cats away from each other for awhile, and in the evening when they met Max did it again. So we kept them awat from each other for the night and tried in the morning and still the same. So what is my cat's problem and how do i fix it?

Hi I have come across this many times before and in nearly all of those cases it has been a completely mystery as to what caused it. A smell, a sound who knows, cats sense things we don't so its best that we don't worry too much about what has caused it in this instance.

Instead we need to give the cats some time apart say a day or so, this gives them time to calm down and forget. then they need to be introduced to each other again slowly and in a controlled way over another couple of days. the process is described here

it does take a little time and patience but it is worth it in the end.

best wishes kate
