Cat problems

My cat is 4 years old and recently has begun to occasionally pee on the floor beside his litter box if it hasn't been cleaned that day and He has been overly licking and biting and scratching his backside. Also I have been finding many larger tuffs/chunks of his hair around the house lately. His behavior has been odd as well, he isn't necessarily a talkative cat but has been a lot lately. I'm not sure if its a behavioral issue, he hasn't been getting as much as our dog over that last few months and he's been getting into more "trouble" lately as well. His constantly licking and biting would suggest it was a medical problem but I am unsure. Please Help.

It sounds to me like he is distress in some way it is either a problem due to anxiety or it may be a problem such as a parasite or an allergy. It can be difficult to distinguish the two.

I think it would be best if you read through my page about fur loss as it will give a few ideas as to what some of the causes could be.

I suggest that you take him to the vets first to make sure there is no parasite issue etc. If he gets the all clear then it is due to anxiety and this can be more difficult to deal with as the cause may not be obvious.

best wishes Kate
