Cat shakes jaw when meowing?

by Jonathan

My cat doesn't seem in pain, and can still meow correctly. But when he's excited, and opens his mouth wide to meow his jaw shakes. I called a vet, and they acted like it wasn't a big deal, and that they'd like to take a cautionary look, but I feel as if they are always gouging me.. Do you have any idea what could be causing this?

Hi
No I don't think it is anything to worry about. Some humans also have a clicking jaw and i think there is much that can be done about it. Not sure what causes it, it may be genetic of it may happen after time ie wear and tear on the law.

If it only happens when the cat opens his mouth wide then it won't be affecting him much. As long as he is able to eat and drink ok and does not appear to be in any pain i wouldn't worry.

Next time you go on a routine vet visit you could mention it so that they can take a quick look.

best wishes Kate
