Cat shaking after bath

(Wheeler, IN)

i have a 6-8month old f. i bought from the pound and ive given her baths before but i gave her one today as she got into something and was making a mess following the bath she got ETREMELY upset (hissing, hiding, howling/crying) and hid under my bed i pulled her out and checked her and she has no visable injuries or damage to her nails however im concerned about her MASSIVE change in behavior. she is fully dry but continues to act like shes cold so i layed down a towel with a warmed rice bag tucked in and have her laying on it but she has continued to howl/cry is there something that im missing that could comfort her????

Hi this could be simply fear or upset. Cats don't like baths at all and she may simply be very upset. Shaking can also be a sign of fear as well as cold.

leave her in a quiet warm room for awhile to allow her to calm down again. If she is still the same hours later then i would consider taking her to see a vet in case she has ingested something which has caused this behavior.

i wouldn't ive your cat a beth if it can be helped. It strips the fur of its natural oils and unless they have something which they cannot get out themselves like oil or glue should be un necessary any way. Often just using a moist cloth will remove any stubborn patches of grit etc from the fur.

please see my page here for more information about cat baths and grooming.
