Cat stealing other cats kittens

We have 3 cate. A male about 2 years old, a female about the same age, and her mom, not sure of the age. The mom just had 6 kittens a month ago, and now the 2 year old female steals only 1 at a time, and lays it by her like she wants it to feed. Why is this? She doesnt harm any of the kittens, just acts like she is trying to feed it.

Hi this is just instinct kicking in. Sometime male cats will do this. It is nothing to worry about and will soon wane.

Remember not to have too many cats in one home as they do not live well together and the more cats you have the more likely hood you will have or behavior issues and fighting..
best wishes Kate

We have 9 cats. All indoor animals, all are spayed and neutered. 2 are very old, in their teens and the rest anywhere from 6 months to 4 years and all get along well. The 2 old timers get grouchy and will occasionally swat at the younger ones but no fighting. I hope this behavior continues. :)
