what does it mean when a cat stays under a bed?

Hi
well it means that they feel safest there. It could be that they are new to a home and need a place they can feel safe until they build up enough confidence to come out or they may have had an experience that has frightened them and they are using the safety of the hidey place under the bed until they can get over the fear.

I wouldn't worry too much and I also would not try and get them from out under the bed, give them time and they will come out when they are ready.
