cat wants more food

my cat is 8ys old. she has been taking allergy shots for the last 2-3 years. she is a little over weight right now. we used to have no problem at feeding times sometimes she would even have some food left over. lately after i feed her about an hour later she wants fed again and she will sit there and whine and whine. my husband gets tired of hearing her and will go feed her again. but i don't want her to become huge !! she is fine if we feed her more. is it because she is getting older and is hungry more? thx for whatever help you can give.

No if anything as cats get older their appetite can decrease a little.

there are some medical conditions which can cause a cats appetite to increase, these include thyroid issues

sometimes diabetes or a heart problem, but thyroid issues are one of the main causes of an increased appetite.

the only way to diagnose for sure is for the vet to do a blood test.

The condition is treatable if caught early enough.

i always recommend people take their cat to see a vet when ever their behavior changes noticeably as often this can be the first indication that something could be wrong.
