cat with hair issues

I have a 5yr old cat who recently has been loosing an excessive amount of hair, plus she also has some areas on her back where her hair is stiff and sort of stuck together. What could be the reason for this?

Well it could be matts forming in the fur. If your cat has longish fur then dirt etc can get caught in it which becomes matted with the fur and becomes a hard tangles.

As for the loss of fur it may be down to general condition of the cat. the fur can be a indicator of something nutritionally wrong.
