Y Won't My Cat Go Outdoors?

Answer by Kate

Generally it is because of some sort of fear, either they have had some sort of bad experience in the past outside, or have little experience of being outside from an early age, or there is a new cat in the area which they are afraid of (this happened to my cat for a while) or in rare cases their eye sight may not be very good and they feel vulnerable being outside.

generally the reason is one of these things and you will have to judge what the possible cause is based on your own personal experience of your cat, their lifer so far and your environment outside (i.e is there changes outside that may be affecting your cat).

My sisters cat had cat flu when he was a kitten and so his eyesight was poor, he also was kept in from a very early age and he spent his whole life inside despite a few attempts by my sister to get him to go in the garden. he was just too afraid.

best wishes Kate
