hi,i have a cat that is 16 months old and has never purred

well some cats just don't or do it so quietly that you hardly notice. I don't think it is compuksury for a cat to purr, some breeds are more vocal than others.

Basically it all boils down to personality a lot of the time. I have had cats that purr all the time and loudly, others every now and again and some rarely. I wouldn't worry too much as long as you do not see any other signs of illness that might be associated ie loss of appitite etc.
