cats behavour has changed since i'm not around

I have a 6 yr old male neutered cat, I moved into an apartment with a flat mate and over past few weeks have not been at home much due to issues with my car and having to stay at my boyfriends house. My room mate says that my cat for the past week or two has been crying alot and his eyes seem to be dilated more often than normal. He is eating, but has stopped playing and just sits and cries at her, she is affectionate to him and loving. He has always been a very needy cat and has a very special bond with me, is my not being around causing this? Please help.

Hi
yes it could quite possibly be your absence which has upset him. If you say your cat was very clingy anyway to you then he will be affected more than most cats.
It is understandable really, he is in a new home with new people and you are not around. Cats do need some time to adjust.

All you can do is to tell your friend to keep playing with him and buy him something new which will help to distract him from any anxieties he may have.

If his behavior remains subdued for much longer and or does not change once you are back home then you may want to consider a trip to the vet to rule out any possible illness.

best wishes Kate
