change in behavior

my indoor cat has been hiding out for about a day now. he never does this and usually sleeps with me at night. when i went to find him today to see if he was ok he hissed and growled at me like he was scared. he still let me pick him up but as soon as i let him down he went and hid again. i did notice that it looked like he hiccupped or burped a couple times. is his stomach just upset or should i be more concerned and take him to the vet.

sounds like something has upset your cat so much that he feels very insecure and feels the need to hide. If this is the case give him time and don't try and force him from his hiding place. Over time he will build his confidence again.
if you are concerned at all that he may be hurt or sick or if he goes off his food then take him to the vets asap, but just keep an eye on him for a few days.
