Change in Cat behavior

MY PERSIAN CAT was very loving ,always purring even with strangers.He spent a lot of time in the garden. He cannot get out of it .Overnight he has changed,will not go out ,hides under the furniture,afraid of noise and movement,never purrs,and he is pulling his fur out .He is eating when he is alone. He isnt the same cat that he was,this change happened five days ago/Can you help please. BRENDA VARNEY

well it sounds as if something really frieghtened your cat and he is still reacting badly to the trauma.

there is no quick fix for this apart from time and lots and lots of TLC and attention. when something like this happens , I find distraction works quickest. Try to play lost of games with him and make his home environement fun and interesting, so new toys, or things to climb on etc are good.
don't try to force your cat into anything, he will eventually find his confidence again and relax but it can take some time for some cats.
