Change in cats behavior

My neutered cat Elliott is 13 & I've had him since he was 8 wks old. Last couple weeks he has been wanting more attention then usual. He appears to be eating & drinking. When he comes around and we pet him he purrs like he usually does. Tonight he is on the bed he never comes up and has done this a few times recently. We have our small 3 doxies sleep with us and they get along fine. Should I be concerned? Is he trying to tell us something?

Hi
well no i don't think you can say that this behavior is his way of telling you something as it is rather general. However he is getting on and a cats behavior can change as they get older. especially if they start to suffer from age related problems such as failing eyesight etc.

Please see my page about some of the possible symptoms of an older cat here

I would say though that if you think his behavior is odd and if it continues then there is no harm in having him checked over by a vet. it is always a good idea to have older cats checked from time to time just in case there is an underlying illness forming. better to catch these things early. And if the vet says he is fine then at the very least you will have piece of mind.

best wishes kate
