Do cats get jealous?

by Connie Smith

My cat has insisted on sleeping with me since we got her 6yrs ago, and is quite persistent. As soon as I lie down she attaches herself to me like my pjs. The odd thing is that she only does this when I'm sleeping alone or with my daughter. If there is anyone else in my bed the cat won't even enter the bedroom. it seems the only time that I can guarantee a catless night is when a "friend" is over. Could this be jealousy?

Hi
no i don't think so. jealousy is very human emotion and I don't think it is one experienced by animals.

it is more likely that she just doesn't feel happy of as safe with someone else around. Strange smells etc. plus they don't like change much either so any break from routine would upset them.

best wishes KAte
