Do cats need buddies?

Do cats do better if they have friends (other cats) living with them?

Cats are not naturally pack animals and generally live on their own. I have owned cats for over 20 years and i have only ever had one cat at a time, they have been perfectly happy. Indeed it is not uncomon for multi cat households to have problems with fights over territiry etc. But some cats can live ok togeather it depends if they were used to other cats during the first ferw months of their lives. i would say that cats do not need to have another cat for company but it is possible for them to live togeather.
