Female cat attacked dog

Hello, I have a 2.5 year old cat who has been living with dogs all her life. When she attacked my German Shepard that she has never had a problem with for the past two years, all of a sudden attacked my dog three times. She has never done that, she was I. Heat when she did that. I immediately took her the next day to get spayed and I'm just waiting on her recovery so that I can let her run around he house. I'm hoping that perhaps she attacked my dog because she was in heat and perhaps made her a little more aggressive. I'm hoping she changes or else I won't be able to keep her since she brutally attacks/ fights my dog. She is a tortie

Hi
Give your cat a few days to get over her surgery then start to reintroduce the dog to the same room with her in a cage. Do this for several more days, this allows the cat to get used to the dog without the fear of attack, it will also help the dog regain his confidence in the cat again.

Her behavior may been due to her being in heat however there are many possible causes and this could have been a behavior known as aggression truama which is an odd behavior and is often unprovoked by the attacked animal. Please see this page for more on this behavior.

Don't give up on your cat yet, i'm sure given enough time she will relax again with the dog.

best wishes kate
