Female Cat Smelling Male Cat Behind

by Amanda L.
(Roanoke, VA)

Hi, I have two cats. One is a male who has been fixed and the other is a female who hasn't. Here lately we have noticed the female cat smelling and biting the behind of our male cat. Is this normal or something to be concerned about? Thank you.

Hi sounds normal to me. Your female cat may be in heat and even though your male is neutered he will still smell of male cat and her instincts will kick in. Have you thought of having your female cats spayed? This will stop her frustrations and all the symptoms she gets with being in heat as well as any accidents occurring if she gets out etc. i have a page about cats in heat which you may find of further interest here

best wishes Kate
