First Time Cat Owner

by Pablo Martinez

My fiance and I got a cat for our apartment. We dont have any other animals and the apartment is very clean. The cat was saved and it is a year old. The cat was in a place with at least a dozen other cats and always had another cat to play with or keep her company. Since we brought her home yesterday, she hasnt stopped crying, meowing, wont eat or use the bathroom. I figure the cat has to get use to the new surroundings and her being alone. This is day 2(3/20)and would like to know if thers anything I need to do to make the cat more comfortable. I bought dry n wet food also bought toys for the cat. Please let me know what I should do.

Hi
It can be worring if you have never owned a cat before so i understand if you are worried about your cats behavior.

However it is complyeley normal. Some cats settle in to a new home quickly while others need some time. Basically you need to make your cats environement as stimulating as possible if you plan to keep her inside. I have more information on how to do this here

Also you need to help her feel more comfortbale with you and your partner. This has to be sone slowly and on her terms so that you have a happy and contented cat.

Please see my page on bonding with a new cat here

I wish you may happy years togetaher.
