HELP cats don't get along

by William Patterson
(New Rochelle, NY)

I have 2 cats that grew up together. 1 is eight years and the other seven. We have lived happy together and nothing has changed in my household. Out of nowhere litterally overnight the younger started attacking the older and it has been going on for months so I have to keep them apart. I may have no choice but to give one to a shelter which is somethin I do not want to do. Can anyone help keep my family together???

Hi this may be a case of aggression trauma. This is an odd occurrence where something frightened one cat and they take that fear out on the other cat even if they had nothing to do with it. Sort of transference. The scare could have been something as simple as a loud sound or trapping their tail etc.

The only thing to try is to try to re introduce them all over again. Take your time and take it slowly and hopefully they will be able to build up some confidence again with each other. The introduction process is described here
