hissing

I have 2 cats and my little cat jess was very poorly with kidney disease, and last night just before she was taken to the vets to be put to sleep my other cat was going up to her and hissing alot and making a very scream/ meow. Do you know the reason for this

Sorry to hear that you had to loose your cat through illness.

As for why your cat was hissing, well this is a sign of fear. When cats hiss at each other it is because they are scared and so are trying to act aggressively to make the fear go i.e the cat to back off.

In your case your cat may have sensed the illness of the other cat and also how everyone was reacting to the situation could also have caused some fear.

I wouldn't worry, it is a natural reaction for a cat who is worried or fearful. It has nothing to do with their relationship to each other and the hissing was not directed at the ill cat but to the situation.
