Is there a way to train cat to stay off kitchen counter?

hi
well cats are much more difficult to train than dogs and some don't respond at all. However cats learn by experience, so when they get a good response i.e being talked too, being petted etc they will seek out this response , however if they get a negative response which is the opposite i.e not being spoken too, no eye contact, being moved away from, they learn not to repeat these actions. Please see this page for more on this process

So when your cat jumps up, go over to him don't say anything, pick him up and put him back on the floor then move away from him. repeat this process every single time.

Also you can spray the working surface with a strong smelling citrus scent, cats don't like strong scents and this may also deter him from jumping up.

best wishes Kate
