Is it safe for a cat to shelter in an animal burrow?

My wild born, but now semi-tamed, outdoor cat likes to shelter from winter storms in an abandoned animal burrow. I have tried to bring her inside, but she flips out and tries to find an escape route. She does have an old barn and an insulated crate to sleep in, but when it's really cold, snowy, and windy she goes to a burrow about 100 ft from the barn. Is this safe?

Hi
well i don't really think that you are going to have much choice in where she wants to be anyway and as to whether or not the burrow is safe, well who can say really.

I would have thought that a burrow like any other underground hole is safe until something makes it unstable. Like water or shifting earth.

I suppose all you can do if you are really worried would be to try and fill in the burrow so that your cat cannot access it anymore.

best wishes KAte
