Just getting old?

My cat is nearly 12 years old now. He has always been well-trained, but recently he seems to urinate and deficate everywhere in the house but his litter box. He also sprays in various places. Now just tonight I realized that his stomach felt rock hard, which is very wierd because he has a very large stomach. I googled and found a disease know as FIP, what are the symptoms? Is my cat just getting too old to function right?

Answer by Kate
unfortunately I am not a vet so would not try and diagnose the problem and I know nothing about FIP.

All I can say is that any changes in your cats physical health should be checked by a vet as soon as possible, even if it just rules out illness.

urination around the home is either a sign of ill health or a behaviour issue.

My best advice is to say that a trip to the vets should be a priority, especially due to his age and also for you to read my pages about cat urination as it has lots of information about this issue. here is the page https://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-urine.html

Sorry i could not be of more help and i hope your cat will recover soon
best wishes Kate
