Kitten takes toy to water bowl

I have 3 cats; 2 males and 1 female; all are littermate. They are now approximately 16 months old. One of my male cats likes to play with a particular soft rubber snake that coils up. He will not quit putting the snake in the water dish. No matter how many times I take it out, he will put it back in when I leave the room. I would love for you to give me insight if you will on why he does this.

Hi
This always makes me smile when i get asked this question which is quite often. I have never had a cat do this but it seems that it is quite common.

However i dont think their is a definitive answer. It is assumed it is all to do with possession and hunting instinct ie wanting to keep their favorite toys near them and to take them to their favorite places and often food and water bowls are the cats favorite places as it is associated with their territory.

If you check through some of the other questions here on the site you may find some other similar questions and perhaps some more in site.

best wishes Kate
