what happens when one of the momma cats kitten dies does she abandon her other babys or what?

This is not not uncommon, sometimes a kitten is born which is not strong enough to survive. they are normally referred to as the runt of the litter.

the mother cat will not abandoned the rest of her healthy kittens. She will have a strong natural instinct to look after the rest of her litter and to make sure they thrive.
