my cat has only had one kitten and is being over protective with the baby. it is 9 days old. it wants to come out of the box, but my cat keeps running round the room with the kitten in her mouth. she knows she can trust me. when will the kitten start exploring properly? ta 4 help.

Hi don't worry, some cats can be very over protective it is just instinct. often they will carry there kitten around looking for safer places to put them again this is instinct.

Your best bet is to leave her alone to do her cat mother thing, she will eventually calm down and as the kitten gets older and is able to move around more for themselves you will be able to be more involved.

best wishes Kate
