losing clumps of fur

My 15 year old short haired female cat is losing clumps of fur off each side. She is active and eats well and has no litter box problems. What could be the cause of this?

It could be over grooming caused by stress or it could be a skin problem caused either by an infection or parasite.

The only real way to know what the problem is to rule out any skin conditions and the vet is the only bone who can check this. if nothing is found then the other option is over grooming caused by some sort of upset.

Take her to the vet soon as a skin condition can be very distressing fro the cat and the sooner any treatment can begin the better. best wishes kate
