maine coon cat and her tail

my cat hates her tail, she will growl and bite it. sometimes i think she is going to hurt herself. I have taken her to the vet, they thought it might be her glands so they expressed them but she is still having the problem. She doesn't have fleas or worms and its her tail not her but that bothers her. i would appreciate any help you can give us.

Hi
i have heard of this before and unfortunately i don't think anyone has ever come up with an actual cause. many think it is neurological and i think some vets end up treating them with calming medications.

You are doing the right thing though in seeking vet advice, i would persist with this and if you are not happy with your vets advice seek a second opinion. it can be amazing the difference between vet surgeries and the help they can provide. Your poor cat deserves to receive some treatment for this, distressing issue.

Sorry i was not able to help further but if you do find the cause, many of my other visitors would welcome an update.

best wishes Kate
