Male cat licking his private area

Hello.. my male cat is 4 yrs old, was fixed when young. I noticed today that he's been licking his private area, his bum and surrounding area way more than usual. He is eating and drinking normally, and acting normal. But it's hard for me to know if he is urinating and having normal bowel movements because I have another cat. So I've been trying to follow him around to see if I can catch him in the act, but it is hard to do. I'd hate to bring him in to the vet for nothing, however am more than willing to if there could be a problem.

this sort of behavior is a indication of some irritation in that area. It could be cat constipation as you suggested

If you have not wormed him then this would be the first thing to do. Also make sure he gets plenty of fresh water to drink in case their is some constipation also.

If after al this he still is excessively licking in that area then you will have to take him to the vets in case their is some allergy or blocked anal gland problem.
