male cat seems protective over kitten when female is aggresive

i have two cats one male and female Both are fixed etc

how ever i just bought a new female kitten ,
and my female cat is agresisve toward the kitten
this is normal i know but my male cat seems protective over the new kitten
Why?

Not sure there is a definitive answer to this. Some cats are just more maternal than others even males. It may simply be that the male cat feels protective of the kitten.

The other possibility is that you are reading his actions incorrectly. he may be reacting to the females aggression only.
