Male cat spraying

Hi,

I wanted to know if a male cat has been living outside for a few years and has been spraying would be continue to do this behavior if he got fixed and tried to bring him inside? There is a male cat that I have been feeding for over 1 year now. He lets me pet and brush him. He is a tiger tabby just like my 2 cats I have inside. He is beautiful. they are all probably related as I got my 2 cats from outside as well. I know all cats are different and maybe he would stop spraying or maybe he would continue right? Anyway could you give me your opinion on this.

Thank you so much!

Tracy

Hi well spraying can occur for different reasons not just for mating purposes. It can also be used by neutered cats male and female as a territory marker but less so.

I would say that the cat may find it difficult to be kept inside all the time as he is now used to being outside and so this may cause some behavior issues.

Having him spayed would be a good idea for him anyway, it will also help to cut down on unwanted pregnancies and homeless kittens etc.

Perhaps he could be an inside / outside cat and this would give him a happy mix.

best wishes Kate
